VELVET (KADİFE)
The origins of velvet production trace back to the 3rd century BCE. Velvet examples woven in India during the 13th century have been preserved through excellent preservation techniques and remain to this day.
From the 15th century onward, velvet was produced in the Ottoman Empire, initially as silk velvet and later as cotton velvet. Velvet has been a symbol of wealth and status throughout the ages, used in royal clothing and in garments for special occasions such as weddings, engagements, and circumcisions. It has been a fabric of choice in ceremonial attire and any setting where woven fabrics were used.
