HEYBE
In Anatolian folk culture, the saddlebag, donkey saddle padding, and the double-compartment carrying bundle placed on a horse's back are indispensable means of transport. The bags, dyed with root dyes and made from wool and goat hair, are woven on carpet looms using techniques such as carpet, kilim, and cicim. These heybeler, with their colors and patterns, carry the cultural heritage of Anatolia into the future, just like socks, lace, carpets, and kilims. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship, along with the colors and designs, provide information about the region and lineage of the person who created them. Shepherds' "dağarcıklar" (shepherd bags), made from the skins of small livestock by tightening the neck with corded leather and binding the foot ends together, are considered the ancestors of today's backpacks.
